The Science Talent Search has run since 1942 — first under Westinghouse, then Intel, and since 2017 under Regeneron. Each year roughly 2,500 high-school seniors submit an individual research project; 300 are named Scholars, 40 become Finalists, and the top award is $250,000. Alumni include Nobel laureates and Fields medalists.

Eligibility is narrow: you must be a high-school senior either living and attending school in the United States (any citizenship), or a U.S. citizen attending school abroad — and the research must be individual work. Projects conducted with other high-school students are ineligible, full stop.
